Good questions! It was unfortunate that before Kirk’s memorial service was over, the speaker was emphatically saying how he hates his opponents. It didn’t take more than a few moments for the focus to move away from Christ’s power of forgiveness. For me, it reinforces the idea that politics and faith can’t share the same podium.
True... I was deeply moved by Erika Kirk's boldness to publicly proclaim forgiveness towards her husband's assassin as she is setting a precedence and example to every follower of Jesus that that it is our calling to do so... we are to forgive as Jesus forgave.
... and I stopped watching when everything she proclaimed was contradicted by our president of the, supposedly, 'United' States... which, sadly, he seems to do a better job of dividing than uniting.
Great clarification Chris regarding the difference between a Revival Meeting, a Revival of the American Spirit, and a True Spiritual Revival.
You confirmed what I believe after witnessing Charlie Kirk's Memorial Service last Sunday and that is...
I believe Charlie Kirk's Memorial Service was a spiritual event marked with awakenings of political and civil ideas, but can't be categorized as a true spiritual revival... that is yet to be seen.
1) What has happened to the church in America? What has happened to America in the past 50 years? I'm not going to answer, but the childhood I knew -playing in streets till dark, walking to school, and feeling we could trust "mainstream" narratives -doesn't exist anymore. What changed?
2) I've seen people challenged and confused by political happenings -and more alter calls after preaching of the scriptures at political conferences and rallies - than in most church services in the last 5 years . Yes at Political rallies? Why? (10 years ago I would have never even attended a political event).
3) I finally found a church where alter calls are given regularly and people respond - - and discipleship is a focus, and I've seen more fruit in both the people than I had during a very chaotic "revival season" in another church? - The spirit was present but the fruit was - varied and some very bad. Is what I'm seeing now different or better? I honestly think only God can judge that.
What I know for sure is:
a) David was really excited when the ARK of the Lord, was returned to the temple. The presence of God returned to it's rightful place. (2 Samuel 6:14). People feel it, and respond (some good, some bad to the presence of the Lord.
- At Charlie's memorial the spirit was present. The Holy Spirit was present and the gospel was preached. I know people inside and outside and who could sense the Holy Spirit wherever they were watching...... Very strongly. Jesus said - "If I be lifted up, I will draw all men to me". John 12:32. I saw Jesus being lifted repeatedly on Sunday.
b) God's ways are not are ways Isaiah 55:8
and
c) Jeremiah 29:13 - And you will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.
lastly - what happened in Phoenix last Sunday, was definitely a spirit filled not only national but spiritual event. It was a memorial, but Jesus was lifted, and the gospel preached.
Jesus said we would find HIS kingdom.... - where people are "making peace", and "people mourn", and "people are being "gentle" and "merciful", and "pure in heart", and "persecuted", and still "forgiving" .. Matthew 5. I think Charlie's service fit 90-100% of those criteria.
As one seeking a better kingdom - one not made of hands.
I think I saw a lot of his kingdom.
So I will continue to pray. "Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. They KINGDOM come, they will be done, on EARTH as it is in Heaven. Matthew 6:9-15
I will continue to lift of the name of Jesus, so others may know HIM, and I will continue to try to do my part to disciple - those willing to follow HIS leading, and HIS word.
I believe the answer to all your questions is simple, and that is... for every Christ follower, if they truly are a follower of Jesus, is to be doers of His Word and fulfill what He has called us to do according to Matthew 28: 18-20.

Great thoughtful questions to be pondered Mr. H.
